Lunch and Dinner: Nepalese local food, momos, bread, thukpa, spaghetti, macaroni, soups, steaks, sherpa stew, potatoes items, pizza, sandwiches, rice, curry, spring rolls, yak steak, burgers,  and others.
Desserts: rice pudding, apple pie, cake, pastries, fruit snicker, chocolates, etc.
Regarding the non-veg items, we strongly suggest not eating the meat items because may not be fresh in all the tea houses.

Water

Drinking plenty of water reduces the risk of getting high altitude sickness. Besides, there are lots of small shops in the trekking area of the Everest region, where you can buy mineral bottled water. But the cost will be raised as you reach a higher elevation. You can get boiled water as well but it costs extra, especially in the upper altitude places.
So, it is advisable to get a reusable bottle and take a water purified medicine because you can refill your water bottle everywhere from the stream during walking at free of cost and purify it by using the purification pill. Then it would be safer as well as cheaper.

Accommodation

Tea houses are used as the Everest Gokyo Lake trek accommodation. These Tea Houses are like small lodges in city areas. These lodges provide a room with a warm blanket, pillow, and a single bed. A room is provided on a twin-sharing basis. But a private room is also accessible in the lower elevated places.
Besides, a restroom lies outside the room and it is also based on a shared basis.

Best Time to do Everest Gokyo Lake Trek

Nepal celebrates five different seasons, such as spring, summer, monsoon, winter, and autumn. Among them, spring and autumn are considered the preferable time for trekking to Gokyo Valley.
During these periods, the weather remains stable. The sun shines brightly. The days are longer. The sky looks clear. As a result, the mountain views are crystal clear even from a far distance. The trekking routes are also wet due to not having rainfall. The flora blossoms very beautifully.
Travel Insurance
Rising Adventure does not do any kind of insurance policy, but we want your travel insurance before starting any trekking or climbing activities in Nepal. Because travel insurance helps you if you get into some uncommon circumstances accidentally. It covers your medical treatment as well as the helicopter rescue expenses in case of emergency while traveling in Nepal through Rising Adventure.
So, having travel insurance saves you from any kind of loss like your personal belongings or even your health.

Lists of Packing

The Packing list for the Gokyo trek is as follows;
Clothes: Thermal tops, fleece jackets, waterproof windcheater, down jackets, fleece trousers, trekking pants, warm gloves and socks, warm t-shirts, underwear, etc.
Accessories: sun hat, sunglass, scarf, sunscreen, lip balm, water bottle, headlamp, towel, etc.
Trekking gears: Trekking poles
Medicine: Diomox and First Aid Kit
Though you get a warm blanket from the tea houses, it is advisable to take your own sleeping bag. It would be beneficial in case of too much coldness and a blanket does not cover such cold. Keeping a water purification medicine is also worthwhile as is already mentioned in the drinking water section of Everest Gokyo Lake Trek.
Transportations during trekking
Rising Adventure provides airport pick-up and drop-off services by private vehicle. Then you will have two ways airplane service for going to Lukla and coming back to Kathmandu. You will walk for the rest of the day.
At last, we arrange any kind of vehicle if you require it during your trip to Nepal with us. Such as the Kathmandu sightseeing tour, Nagarkot tour, Pokhara and Chitwan tour, etc.

Gokyo Lake Trek Difficulty

The difficulty level of any trekking destination can be measured on the basis of walking hours, trekking route, and elevation. Concerning these factors, it can be said that the Gokyo trek is moderately strenuous trekking. Because you need to walk only for 5-6 hours per day.
While talking about the route, it includes the ascending and descending pathways as well as the labeled trail along the mountain passes. In the same way, the maximum altitude of the Gokyo lake trek is over 5000 meters above sea level.
In order to cope with these difficulties, you must be healthy and fit physically. Daily walking and running exercises would be beneficial for making your body habituated to trekking. Drinking plenty of water, fluids, soup, and other powerful and hygienic meals reduces the risk of altitude difficulties.

Gokyo Trek FAQs
  • Gokyo Lakes is a freshwater lake system located in the Gokyo valley. The lake consists mainly lakes: Gokyo Cho (Dudh Pokhari) Thonak Cho, Gyazumpa Cho, Tanjung Cho, Ngojumba Cho, and Kyajumba Cho. Thonak Cho is the largest lake among them and it covers an area of 65.07 ha (160.8 acres). Following the Thonak the Gyazumpa Cho covers an area of 29 ha (72 acres) in size. After that, Tanjung Cho with an area of 16.95 ha (41.9 acres), and Ngojumba Cho with an area of 14.39 ha (35.6 acres) respectively. Apart from that the beautiful village of Gokyo lies on its eastern shore.

  • As we said before the Gokyo lakes consist of several lakes, among all of these lake Fourth Lake named Thonak Cho is the deepest one. The lake is 62.4 m deepest while the second one is Gokyo Lake which is 43 m. However, these lakes are said to be much deeper than previously assumed by the researchers.

  • Generally, spring and autumn are considered to be the best season to travel to any place in Nepal. The spring season lasts from March to May while the autumn season last from September to November. During this month the temperature is likely to be warm and not that cold. Similarly, the weather is also clear and the views are more visible. However, this time the crowd of national and international tourists is high. Not only that the Khumbu region is especially known to be cold and dry, thus many trekkers develop the ‘Khumbu cough’ due to the dry dust.

  • Without a permit travel to any part of Nepal, it is illegal. In the same way, the Gokyo lakes are in Sagarmatha National Park, which is a UNESCO World Heritage site. Thus, to travel or trek around the park, you’ll need a TIMS and Sagarmatha National Park permit. The TIMS permit cost you around USD 10 per person while the Sagarmatha National Park permits cost you around USD 30 per person. The permits are available in Kathmandu and your Sagarmatha National Park permits are in Monjo. In case you are traveling with the agency then they will provide you with it.

  • So the answer to your question is yes! There is Wi-Fi service at Gokyo trek. Most of the tea houses and lodges offer you the internet although it can be spotty. Not only that cell phone networks can be found on the trek. Most of the places get cell phone coverage either by NCell or NTC networks. You can buy a Nepalese SIM card at the airport when you arrive. As in Nepal, your country’s SIM doesn’t work. Likewise, you can buy Wi-Fi cards for the adventure trek in Nepal.

  • Talking about the difficulty of the Gokyo trek, the trek is considered to be moderate. The trekking route that ascends to Gokyo Ri, the highest altitude that will be stretched is the summit, at around 5,400 meters. Compared to the Everest base camp the summit of Gokyo RI is itself at around the same altitude, making this trek generally easier in terms of altitude. The trek offers a beautiful scenario, adequate scenic beauty, and so on.
The main challenging factor on this trek is the number of walking days on uneven terrains for several hours each day and a little exposure to altitude, otherwise, the trek is a moderate and pleasant walk. Similarly, sometimes the rugged trails, steep terrains, and high passes prove to be more burdensome. Thus, to trek around Gokyo Lake, one must have to be in good shape and stamina for this trek.

  • Despite being so challenging the Gokyo Lake is so rewarding. During the month of October and November, the sky remains clear and days are clear and sunny and the sights of the mountains are mesmerizing. Definitely, it is worth the effort to climb Gokyo Ri 5380m. From there you can see 360 degrees of the Everest Range, Cho Oyo and the Gokyo lakes, and the huge Ngozumpa glacier.
Not only that the Gokyo Village is the home of the Sherpa. Walking through the alley of the village you will get a chance to know a unique culture, language, and stone-made house. Hence, the Gokyo Lakes trek is ideal for people who want to trek in the Everest region, but who want more diversity of views and fewer nights spent at very high altitudes.

  • The question might hit you as you are traveling in a new place. There are several helicopter rescues during the Gokyo lake trek who need emergency. Similarly, the travel insurance policies that you made before the trek will be a great help. If you are traveling with the agency they will provide it for you. So no need to worry.

  • Gokyo Lake trek is a prominent place for trekkers. Situate on the west side of the Everest region, the Gokyo Valley and lakes are known for their striking landscapes and pristine lakes. That can be yaks grazing over the vast pastures, mountains from here, six freshwater lakes, and many more.
Nevertheless, to reach there one must have to trek for around 14 days. The journey generally starts from Kathmandu, the capital of Nepal. Kathmandu is popular among tourists because of its various heritage sites.

However, not all grades of accommodation may be available in all settlements, particularly the smaller ones.

  • They said the food is a way to win someone’s heart. Maybe they are not wrong, but the food around the Khumbu region will make your visit twice in your lifetime. The variety of Tibetan food and Nepali thakali food will make your heart happy and lick your hands. Similarly, there are several other foods including rice and curry, noodles, momos, soup, Tibetan-style bread, potatoes, and so on.

From there you must have to walk until you can reach EBC (Everest Base Camp) to trek to Gokyo Lakes. Lukla is not connected by any highway thus you cannot reach there by four-wheeler.

  • Many of you might get into a dilemma about the stuff that you carried from your hometown. While traveling to this place you might not need extra luggage that you have carried, in this case, you can store them at the hotel, where you are staying. Similarly, make sure that your bag is lockable.

Breathtaking journey through EBC and Gyoko

Umang S, United StatesTrip Date: May 02, 2024

An amazing experience trekking through Himalayan mountains with rich culture, definitely worth it - some parts from Chola Pass heading into Gyoko lake are difficult where having a guide is must. Rising Adventure (Chandan) and team is great to help plan a perfect trip - very flexible throughout the entire planning period as well as helping to adjust the itinerary on the fly while we were trekking to suite our needs. Our Guide (Hari aka Manish) and his team of Porter (Deepak and Bhimal) were very hospitable and knowledgeable with local information. Our guide Hari, on a daily basis, ensured we were in good health and always had a positive outlook. Highly recommend Rising Adventure, Chandan and his team - and ask for Hari as your Guide.
