Helambu Trek is the nearest trekking trail to Kathmandu. It is located in the lower altitude of Langtang region in Nepal. The spectacular views of Langtang Lirung, Dorje Lakpa, Ganesh Himal and other towering peaks give the company to the trekking to Helambu area.
Actually, the word ‘Helambu’ is derived from ‘Hyolmo’ which means a type of tribes who live there. The Helambu region is mainly inhabited by the Tamang and Sherpa people. So, the Helambu Circuit Trekking can be considered as the Helambu Cultural Trek through the forests of rhododendron, oak, bamboo, etc.
Langtang Helambu Trekking is basically perfect for the family trekkers. Apart from it, this trek is suitable for those who have the short vacation, but want to explore the Himalayan region of Nepal and for those too who have the high altitude sickness.
Helambu Cultural Trekking begins from the beautiful village known as Sundarijal. It takes almost an hour drive to reach there from Kathmandu. In the beginning, the trail goes on along the area of Shivapuri National Park by passing the small hydroelectric plant and moves on through the terraced farmlands. It joins the Langatang National Park most of the times of the trail.
Chisapani, Tharepati, Tarke Ghyang and Sermathang are the beautiful villages of Helambu region, mainly populated by Tamang and Sherpa inhabitants. The trekkers get surprised by experiencing the warm hospitality of Helambu people. Their cultures are remarkable. The incredible sceneries of Langtang ranges and the neighboring snow capped peaks provide the stunning enjoyment to the Helambu Valley Trekking.
Finally, the trail descends to the Melamchi Pool Bazaar, a trekking ending point. From there you have scenic drive back to Kathmandu.
