Lower Dolpo Trek in western Nepal is a mystical trip. It gives you the sense of adventure of walking through the rugged trail. This region preserves the spectacular Tibetan Buddhist culture as well as the Bon Po religious practitioners. The overall landscape is barren of this area but awesome. However, the trekking in Dolpo is still untouched due to its less connection with the modern world.
Lower Dolpo is surrounded by the Dhaulagiri Himalayan range. The trekkers get rewarded by the unique landscape and the memorable Tibetan cultural influence. The rugged trail of the Lower Dolpo leads you to the hidden and isolated land of the ethnic groups, who are innocent and hospitable.
The attractions of this trekking include the high passes, the Lake, and the wilderness of the flora and fauna. Similarly, the wildlife has flourished in this region, where Blue Sheep, Snow Leopard, Jackal, and others are found.
This Lower Dolpo trekking starts from Juphal airport of the Dolpo with a short flight from Nepalgunj. You reach Nepalgunj also by flight from Kathmandu. The trail goes along the Bheri River in the beginning. It passes many gorges and hanging bridges.
The villages influenced by Tibetan cultures and costumes are beautiful. In some of the places, you need to jump over the small gorges because of the lack of paved way. The rest day at Dho Tarap is interesting where you can explore the surrounding cultures as well as have a short walk to observe the Bon Po Monastery.
The continuation of the Lower Dolpo Trek Nepal takes you to Num La Base Camp. This camp is considered an excellent viewpoint for looking at the mountains of Tibet and the Ladhak mountain of India. Crossing this Base Camp is the toughest trail as you need to go up on the steep way and walk down to the Bega La Pass. This pass also offers superb views of the surrounding Himalayas.
Your trek goes on to Ringmogaun. From there, you hike to Phoksundo Lake. It is the deepest lake in Nepal. It is very beautiful which is located at an elevation of 3611.5m. Yak Caravan is also there. Then you trek down to Shyanta and Jhupal. At last, you have a flight back to Nepalgunj to Kathmandu.
Spring and autumn are the best seasons to trek to Lower Dolpo as the weather is likely to be the finest and the temperatures good. We do not recommend having this trekking in the winter season. It is strictly prohibited to go to Lower Dolpo Trekking alone as it lies in a remote area.
